Irish Scabbards

So far I keep seeing images of a fringed scabbard for swords on Irish warriors. Is this a common type of scabbard and if so, does anyone have any insights as to their creation? (wooden core, all leather etc.)

Thank you,

Timothy

Foodways

... on the Early Modern page, I'm going to throw it out to the general group: I am starting to do more Tudor period set ups and attending more field type events. I'm looking for a common Irish pottage recipe and foods that would be easily prepared in the field in the 1500s. Thanks in advance.

Re: The situation of Irish re-enactment today

That's a pretty long rant, must have taken you ages to type up! :) While i would agree with much of what you say, i would like to make a point in relation to multi-period events. Running a public show puts a financial risk on the organisers, so it's ...

... think that hoes would be suitable, but you could wear a pair of tight fitting trews, tough Gaelic people were famus for going bare legged. Any type of javelin/dart would probably work, and a bollock dagger would be most suitable for 14th century. Cheers Stephen, the Rogart reference is a pretty ...
