reenactors social network

Hi all,

Recently with friend of mine we set up a social network dedicated to historical re-enactment. The idea is to create facebook like platform where all the groups can present themselves and interact with each other. It is as well an opportunity to show how big and popular re-enacting is.
It's completely non-profit and free for all project. The site was put up only yesterday so I'm contacting everyone around to get feedback and opinions. So here is the link http://www.reenactors.org please visit, have a look and let me know how you feel about it what could be improved or changed. Any help is welcome as well it's only two of us and as I said it is non-profit project so our time is limited.

Best of look with the new endeavour!
We are looking at a revamp of this site for the simple reason that it is not being used in its current format. Hopefully that is something that can tie in with what you are doing in some way.
Part of the challenge we have here is trying to ensure that the useful posts that have been created over the years are not lost and that is something that social network type platforms (Facebook, Twitter) can struggle with.

We could put the archive into a plain html website and use let's say Facebook for the newer part ... I don't see any use in a specialised reenactors social network ...

Second reenactor-oriented social network in the last 2 weeks. Looks like we have a mini-boom here:).

I like what they have done with that. I think. It seems more modern than the format here. Looks to be some good info there as well (The joys of Translate!)

Thanks for posting the links the other networks. The Russian is pretty much mature website even with online store.
I don't want to make a big deal out of it. Yeah another re-enactors social network maybe it gets under the skin maybe not. It's an evening project, based on solid platform.

Can someone tell me what is being fired from reenactors guns that make them look like they are firing real shots? I've asked numerous times on different sites and I still have not got an answer. How are people supposed in get involved in this great hobby if we don't know what kind of weapons to look for and where to get them???

Why not just ask a re enactor?.Or ask your local firearms officer like I suggested in the topic below?

Ask a reenactor? I've ask a few already and I still haven't got the bottom line. I looking for a site or shop that sells the sort of guns that reenactors use in the first world war period. I'm looking for info on what is allowed in the republic of Ireland - meaning do I have to get a special permit or something.

The one person who replied mentioned bank firing rifles but didn't say where to get them or if I need a permit for them. I called the gardai but reenactors didn't compute with the one I was talking with.

I don't understand why there isn't a sticky thread on this site to be frank. I joined the site to get help and yet I can't get basic information on where to get, or what to use for weapons or even books on how to start or organise a group.

To me, these are the basics that should be front and foremost on a living history reenactment site.

It's not that simple. groups are hard work. why don't you go to some of the living history gigs, usually all advertised here and talk to people. it's the easiest way.
