So, here's my latest attempt at a Gallowglass impression. I got the helmet from Swifty (which is Grand!) my buddy Brian Baird sewed the Actun/Cotun, based on art, I was also going for that Albrechct Durer look, so no amour.






The Cotun is quilted, but for some reason it doesn't show up in these images.

Looking good, sleeping a ditch after a bottle of your favourite whiskey would probably sort out the visibility of the quilting

who did you get your sword from?

The sword is a relatively inexpensive glorified wall hanger, and I don't remember who I bought it from. It looks good, but the steel is poor quality.

Your sword is Windlass's "Irish Two Hander" discontinued some years back, based upon the sword depicted in Durer's "War Men of Ireland."

I hope you have good luck with Nick Johnson; I really like his "Clonteevy-like" axe. Its finish is a bit crude, but I like this for a "mass forged" axe such as described by Hayes-McCoy in his "Scots Mercenaries in Ireland - " Unfortunately, I did have to wait a year to receive it. On the other hand, Thomas Yeudall, owner of "Claymore Armoury," sent me a beautifully crafted axe within two months of my first contact. His axe head is similar in form, but larger than my Albion "Hebridean War Axe."

The "Saga of the Gallowglass Axe" conitues! It has finally made it to the US, but here is what Nick had to deal with:

Having great fun this end trying to find a courier who will ship your axe head . Fedex won't ,DHL won't ,Post Office Won't, UPS said they would, booked it all on line, guy turned up for it scanned it and refused to take it because it was a weapon or it could be used as a weapon. After endless phone calls talking to Muppet's they have finally agreed to take it. I have told them it is a return item if there are any problems. I send blunt and sharp weapons to about 20 different countries and the US seems to be the worst as far being paranoid.

He was finally able to ship it to me through Interparcel. Yikes! This has been a nightmare!

That does not look too bad at all.

Wow, that axe looks pretty good, and $20.00 less than Nick's, and probably a lot easier to ship.

Our group has contacted BKS to make us several of these axes.

Much of our impression is 15th/ early 16th Century....
We would like to source weapons and kit for later 16th C, Desmond rebellions.

Any how, I wanted to show the Manning Imperial Irish Bascinet, Claymore Armoury Gallowglass axe, and a swell cotun. Will try again.

Jeff, please keep trying to post those pictures I would really like to see them. I was just discussing ordering the bascinet with Manning Imperial and would really like to see what it looks like with someone wearing it. I am also looking into a cotun so I am very interested in your kit,thanks.
