- It is very thorough in its referencing of primary sources. It also lists suppliers -none of whom are cheap :(

I have seen the helmet you have posted several times and always thought that it resembled this helmet worn by the Irish horse man in front.

Not sure how clear the pic is but I have a better version in the Dunleavy book and looks pretty close. The image is earlier that your kern kit but there you go might give you a reason to buy if the price was right.

Yup, that image is said to be Art MacMurrough Cavanagh, so we're talking mid 14th to early 15thC if it is him. The shap would seem to match but is there not cloth over it in the depiction of Cavanagh? Maybe it's not at all similar to the Galloglaigh helmets we're talking about? I've always thought it was similar, but we can't really be sure, can we?
