The Shoe Quest...

Hello there,
after waiting for a short while ( only 16 months , Bodo, the shoe maker isn´t the fastest lad in town!) we got our Lucas-type shoes
The price was 150 EUR each pair. The shoes are very comfortable. If someone is interested try to contact Bodo via his homepage: http://www.bododanneck.de/

Kerstin and me met Bodo, the shoemaker, yesterday and ordered two pairs of shoes for ourselves. The shoes are of the style like the one from the picture below.
The price isn't fixed yet, because Bodo has little experience with that type (estimated price is 150€ for one pair).

Hi Seth,
without checking my notices I´m not sure, but I think the NMI in Dublin has a Lukas-type Shoe.
Our shoes are "a little bit adapted" to modern streetsurface. They are not made from one piece, but have a modernized base with an extra thick leather layer. The different types of the tongues are mentioned in a book about historical shoetypes, which Bodo the shoemaker possesses. Unfortunately I don´t remember the title anymore.

I have been reading Barber, John W. Excavations on Iona, 1979 Proc. Soc Antiq Scot, 111,1981, 282-380 He mentions a turn shoe version with a separate sole on page 320. Great illustrations of the leather finds too.

if you clarify dating information - that would be great. Because for now Iona and DPF look like 7th century, other papers on multi-piece shoes give "early christian" as dating speculation. If this one is 11th-12th - provides idea of continuous tradition.

Here is my turn on Annaholty Bog find.
As for me, the shoe could be from the 12th C because of the thin thread used in decorative stitches. I did not finish the decoration yet, however I understand that stitches to the toe are "must be" to follow the tradition in fashion. Will add later.
