Way off topic: our trip to Ireland in May

I was in Kerry for the St.Patricks weekend and we did the ring of Kerry and the Dingle Penninsular. I can tell you (and everyone I spoke to about this said the same: Only the southern Part of the Ring of Kerry is nice...the rest is kind of boring.

Don't follow the main road to Dingle Town...keep going Straight at Knockglass More and you will end up on one of the most beautiful drives I have ever done. You should also drive along the R559 around the far end of dingle it is very beautiful there and there are some "beehive huts" from (I think) the 12th or 13th century there.

It would be good if you give GPS coordinates or even routes via google maps, so I can check via panoramas and find out if it's doable. Our route is already challenging in terms of driving time, and we have started joking that it's going to be more "a gang on the run" vacation style .

When you drive on to the dingle penninsular just follow the signs for Conor Pass (beautiful drive) and for the ring drive. When you are on the Strand street it is sign posted (R559)...just follow the road out Dingle Town and stay on the main road, it will lead you all the way around.

When you're going from Dublin to Glendalough, take the N81 to Blessington/Hollywood. Shortly after passing Hollywood you'll find Athgreany Stone Circle upon a little hill on the left hand side. There's a small sign down at the road. Then turn around, back to Hollywood, turn right there and you'll reach Glendalough via Wicklow Gap.

If you are going to Glendalough, you can also try to get to Sally Gap (very close by) which is also a beautiful drive...there is a little car park area just above the Guinness Estate which is worth to stop off at and have a look into the valley...

Due to the time limitations, we will have only 1 day for Wicklow mountains, Glendalough and Powerscourt. I don't think we could squeeze more than 200-250 km of the roads into 10 hours day while having enough time for G. and P.
Any ideas of route optimization (skipping some parts) are welcome.

You can certainly try use those small roads...but they aren't made for tourist traffic, that's for sure

Check out Google Streetview; they have some really nice images of what the roads look like, so you can see they really are one-car width, and intended for tractors only ...

John, 1 car roads are fine if there are no cars in the opposite direction or tractors . I'm looking forward to compare with Ukrainian roads.
